Love/d On A Friday: New Year, New Door, Same Knock

Things have been a little quiet here on Fridays.  It has a lot to do with moving - from the door on the left to the right but more of that in the newsletter in weeks to come.  (The newsletter is where we'll be going behind the scenes so do sign up if you're not already).

But in the meantime as I slowly reorientate and ponder a new year for The Ultimate Makeover, here's a brief thought, one that reminded me that I am loved and I hope will remind you of the same.

---------------

So we get to walk right up to God.  I've never lived outside of thinking I can do that because I was born a child encouraged to talk and go to Him.  Over years it has sunk in deeper that He is never angry with me whatever my failings.  That nothing I do can separate us - there is shed blood between.

And yet I'm not sure I always see Him like this.  If He is never angry then there is always pleasure on His side at the sight of me.  I should live in that love and welcome.  Know that always the path is cleared because a cross was carried ahead of me.

Yet there is fear sometimes.  Not of punishment anymore.  But I see my needs and pains and troubles and I am afraid of disappointment - of running to God and somehow being let down.

But these words of Jesus turn that on its head:

"Look, I am standing at the door, knocking.  If one of you hears me... and opens... I will come in to share his meal, side by side with him."
Revelation 3:20 Jerusalem Bible

It isn't all about me going to Him afraid of the ways in which He might let me down because HE HAS ALREADY COME TO ME.  I'm not the one who has to run.  HE HAS DONE ALL THE RUNNING.

And He wants so much more than me standing before Him.  He wants to be friends.  Proper friends.  The kind who save a seat for each other in the dining room, who everyone knows are always partners on the school trips.

As Basil Pennington says:  "We won't sit with a table between us.  It will be side by side."

Love/d On A Friday: Draw Near

I think it can be really difficult to spend time with God.  To find the time.  To sit down and be still and quiet.  Different people say they find different ways make it easier - maybe being on the treadmill, on a walk, with pen and paper in hand.

But I know for myself that although every possible excuse might present itself, in the end, there is no substitute for coming before God.  Just me.  Just as I am.  There are usually lots of other things I could be doing that if I'm honest seem less boring.  But I know I need to come.  And if I do, I realise there is actually nothing more interesting or life giving.

Why not take some time today, away from the distractions, to draw near, to know that you are loved.

NOW LISTEN, DAUGHTER, DON'T MISS A WORD:

FORGET YOUR COUNTRY, PUT YOUR HOME BEHIND YOU.

BE HERE - THE KING IS WILD FOR YOU.

SINCE HE'S YOUR LORD, ADORE HIM.

Love/d On A Friday: Love/d Today

I really enjoy writing on this blog and I enjoy reading other people's thoughts about Jesus and discoveries in their walking with Him.  But I also know that for all the things that we can gain from each other, there is nothing like spending time with God quietly away from the noise.

So for the next week or two I'm going to be taking a breath.  Drawing near.  Remembering I am loved and whose I am.

HERE'S WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO:

FIND A QUIET, SECLUDED PLACE SO YOU WON'T BE TEMPTED TO ROLE-PLAY BEFORE GOD.

JUST BE THERE AS SIMPLY AND HONESTLY AS YOU CAN MANAGE.

THE FOCUS WILL SHIFT  FROM YOU TO GOD, AND YOU WILL BEGIN TO SENSE HIS GRACE.

Love/d On A Friday: Speak Love To... Yourself

These are the words God speaks to you.  Would you speak them to yourself?  After all we've been talking about self love, could you tell yourself today:  "I love you"?

Love/d On A Friday: Loving The Person You See In The Mirror

-Heather Bays

If Jesus' Record Of Achievement reads something like this:

 PERFECT BEHAVIOUR, PERFECT MOTIVES

He did only God's will.  He did exactly what God wanted straight away and always willingly.  He kept all the Commandments.  (John 19:28-30, John 15:10, Philippians 2:5)

He delighted to do whatever God wanted because it was God's desire - no matter what it was.  It was all because He loved God more than anything else.  He didn't seek to please Himself but only His Father.  (John 8:29)

All He did was for God's glory.  He didn't take men's praise for Himself but gave all the glory to God for everything.  (John 5:41)

Your Record Of Achievement reads like this:

DITTO

God loves the woman He sees.  Can you love her?
